Coaching legend Paul Sacco leads St. Joseph football for final time

WINSLOW TWP. – The scoreboard read 2:24.

The St. Joseph Academy football team trailed Winslow Township 42-17 when timeout was called Wednesday night.

The Wildcats’ season and legendary coach Paul Sacco’s career with the program were about to end.

His players took a knee as they got some final coaching. Sacco, living what he described as “one of the hardest days of my life,” went around the circle and tapped each of them on the helmet. In the most difficult of times, Sacco did what he’s always done, supported his kids.

“I’m glad I hung with ’em,” said Sacco, who contemplated stepping away in the summer before agreeing to coach one final season with a program that’s synonymous with his name. “It’s been a wonderful experience at St. Joe. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
