Marquette loses to Mississippi State in Rocket Mortgage Tip-Off: 58-55

The Marquette men’s basketball team almost overcame a cold start in Florida.

Tyler Kolek scored 16 points in a breakout shooting game, but the Golden Eagles fell to Mississippi State, 58-55, on Monday in the Fort Myers Tip-Off at Suncoast Credit Union Arena.

The Golden Eagles (3-2) will play Georgia Tech in the third-place game Wednesday.

Kam Jones made a three-pointer on MU’s first offensive possession, but soon after that the Golden Eagles’ offense went into a deep freeze.

MU suffered through an almost 8-minute scoring drought before Stevie Mitchell converted a three-point play that brought the Golden Eagles within 13-7 at the 8:25 mark of the first half.

When Tyler Kolek made a three-pointer with 3:11 to go in the first half it snapped a drought of 11 consecutive missed shots from long distance for MU.
